Technology and Society

how does the author believe technology is changing us as individuals?
Any person can get a number of sites and usernames and post whatever they want.  People are posting information about their personal lives or things that an everyday user doesn't need to know.  The use of blogs is becoming outrageous and people looking for credible information may be confused on what is 'credible' and what is the common persons belief.
How is technology changing our society?
"With hundreds of thousands of visitors a day, Wikipedia has become the third most visited site for information and current events; a more trusted source for news than the CNN or BBC Web sites, even though Wikipedia has no reporters, no editorial staff, and no experience in news-gatehring. It's the blind leading the blind-infinite monkeys providing infinite information to infinie readers, perpetuating the cycle of misinformation and ignorance." (page 4)
How does technology affect humans?
Keen claims that because of technology, amateurs are replacing professionals. In other words, people who are not "professional" are posting things online to share with the world that is actually "amateur" work, which Keen says takes away from the beauty of the work of those who are truly knowledgeable of the topic. The more we empower the "amateur", the more we undermine the authority of experts.
He also mentions that because of the "amateurs" that post "entertainment" on the internet, humans' appreciation of art has decreased. For example, websites such as Youtube provide videos for people to watch that are not written or put together by professionals. People are now finding entertainment out of these videos, instead of tv shows and movies that have taken years to write and produce. Therefore, humans' appreciation of true art has decreased.
Another point he has is the way it affects a person individually. He says that because of the way we use the internet today, people have endagered their individual rights of privacy, accountability, as well as personal responsibility.

How do humans affect technology?
Keen says that today, humans use technology to share mere opinions, rather than analysis. Because any human can post things online for the world to see, our information via the internet is no longer reliable. Therefore, humans have turned the internet, which was once factual and very useful, into something unreliable.

How would the author define technological literacy? what would the author think people should know about technology (not how to use it)

The author really stresses individual credibility and responsibility on the internet. He talks about personal blogs and how they can be viewed by anyone, as well as websites such as Youtube and Wikipedia. The author would want people to realize and understand what a digital footprint is, and how important it is to protect your own privacy.
