Usage of technology

What ways does the author think tech can be used appropriately?
Keen thinks that technology can be used appropriately if professionals and credited individuals are the ones posting information online, instead of people who may not be as knowledgeable. He also says that it would be appropriate if there were people monitoring what was posted online to check credibility and validity of the information posted. 


What ways does the author think tech can be used inappropriately?
He thinks that the information posted on the internet is not always true.  The users are abusing their powers by continuing the cycle of spreading false thoughts.  It is becoming way to personal and internet users are not aware of their digital footprint they are creating.  "This undermining of truth is threatening the quality of civil public discourse encouraging plagiarism and intellectual property theft, and stifling creativity." (pg 17)


How would the author define technology?
He would classify technology as a democracy. This book mainly talks about the internet, which he refers to as Web 2.0  "Digital technology has become an inescapable part of twenty-first-century life." (pg 185) Technology is now around in our everyday life and we need to be careful how we are using it.  "But technology doesn't create human genius.  It merely provides new tools for self-expression."(pg 204)  We can't let technology define who we are, but we can let it help us express ourself.
"Instead, lets use technology in a way that encourages innovation, open communication, and progress, while simultaneously preserving professional standards of truth, decency, and creativity." (pg 205)  He is saying, he wants us to use technology truthfully and be decent using it.  Let it express your creativity by having open communication and communicating with others around you.
